I participated in that thread (and part of its predecessor) quite a bit. That 'Tentacle' over there at FM: it is I .
And yes, it's a time-hog of epic propotions, with epic shots too.

F-86 Sabre. One of the prettiest jet aircraft ever made. I have great love for this jet.

The coolest thing about the P-38 is that it had counter-rotating propellers so that it would torque one way or the other like most propeller aircraft did. Most other twin engine aircraft of the era did not have this feature so they would be easy to turn one way, but difficult to turn the other way.

Lockheed stomp - full pitch/throttle on one prop, flat pitch/low throttle on the other side and turn like a scorched rabbit.

In my head, the Mustang pilot is giving it everything she's got, balls to the wall, and the other three are trying not to fall out of the sky at the relatively slow speed, although I know in reality the P-38J was only slightly faster in cruise.
(P-51 Mustangs were fairly average planes for their time. Give me an F4U-4 any day)

I don't hate Mustangs, but I would take a Corsiar over a P-51 anyday.
